Cameron Norrie Celebrates 'Most Significant Victory' Following Fighting Back to Beat Alcaraz in Paris

The British tennis star secured the biggest victory of his career by rebounding from a lost first set to defeat world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz in three hard-fought sets in the early stage of the Paris Masters.

Although he had earlier overcome Alcaraz on two occasions, this triumph represents Norrie's initial victory over a sitting world number one.

"Huge. Incredibly significant for me," said Norrie, who joins as the latest UK male player in history to beat a world No 1. "Coming back from health issues last year, I fell in the opening stage of qualifiers here. I just aimed to enjoy my game in the latter part of the year. To achieve a triumph like this, it's the most significant win of my tennis journey, my initial victory over the global number one and probably the most in-form athlete in the sport right now."

Norrie, positioned 31st globally, also stopped Alcaraz's supreme streak of nine straight final appearances and 17 straight premier event successes, which was the best series of outcomes in the young champion's early career.

The top seed looked to be advancing smoothly to success early on as he eased through the first set.
