People have assembled around the country to remember two years since the Hamas-conducted offensive on 7 October 2023, as talks continued in Egypt over an end to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The attack resulted in more than 1,200 people killed and 251 others abducted back to Gaza as prisoners. It was the uniquely deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust.

Israel responded by beginning a armed campaign in Gaza which has killed over 67,000 people, according to the region's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its figures are considered trustworthy by the UN and other international bodies.

"Our aggressive adversaries have hit us hard, but they have not overcome us," the leader remarked on Tuesday.

He also pledged to "achieve all the goals of the war: the release of all the kidnapped, the removal of the Hamas government and the guarantee that Gaza will not create a threat to Israel".

Remembrance Events Across Israel

The Israeli government delayed formal remembrance events until October 16th - after the end of the festive season - but gatherings still occurred across the country on that day.

A commemorative event for the relatives of people who lost their lives in the Hamas attack was conducted in Tel Aviv. Arranged by the affected families, it was aired across Israeli TV networks.

A period earlier, a moment of silence was observed around the country.

Peace Meetings in Egypt

Meanwhile, Israeli and Hamas delegations met in the Egyptian coastal city of the negotiation venue for a continuing round of third-party negotiations to discuss the conditions of the proposal.

A high-ranking Palestinian official involved in the talks revealed that an evening round of negotiations commenced at 19:00 Cairo time.

The official explained the earlier meeting ended without concrete outcomes, amid conflicting views over the proposed Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas seeks to guarantee Israel does not restart fighting after the first phase of the agreement.

He added that the negotiations are "challenging and have not yet achieve any major advancement," but noted that intermediaries are working hard to reduce the gaps between the conflicting groups.

Key Points in Negotiations

  • A lasting halt to fighting
  • The trade of the prisoners still kept by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of military personnel from Gaza
  • Plans for assistance provision
  • After-conflict governance of the territory

Civilian Reaction

In Tel Aviv's memorial area that day, 29-year-old Hagar - whose family member survived the assault on the outdoor event, where many attendees were lost their lives and dozens more were taken hostage by Hamas gunmen - explained: "No location seems like home now and until all the hostages come back not a single person will have peace of mind."

"Once we see everyone home once more, we can feel relief again. Then we can start to heal," she added.

In front of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's official dwelling in Jerusalem, people assembled to express their support for the families of the captives. Israel states forty-eight continue in detention in Gaza, twenty of whom are considered to be surviving.

Activist a participant stated: "We need do any agreement necessary for the abducted to be released. But we really want promises that we will be protected."

Opinion polls now regularly indicate that approximately the majority of the population prefer the conflict to end in exchange for the freedom of the abducted.

Gaza Conditions

At the site of the music event, grieving people assembled to honor the dead.

From there, the sound of military attacks and artillery could be detected just a brief space away in Gaza, where observers indicated the heavy Israeli bombardment persisted.

In the urban center, air and artillery strikes were documented in the early hours of Tuesday in the western neighborhood, Rimal and locality neighbourhoods and in the eastern district of the community, as well Shati refugee camp to the north-west.

"As the evening falls, the fear appears with it," evacuated urban resident a local woman, whose young son was lost his life by an Israeli aerial attack earlier, explained.

"My family are fearful of the bombings. During nighttime we are resting together, clinging, notably my smallest child who places his head on me all night."

"Every second we look at the updates to see what happened. And I'm concerned that this ceasefire will not be achieved and that the conflict will resume to us."

Medical Emergency

Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City said it had taken in the remains of six people by the midday, including a trio who died in an Israeli bombing in the south part district.

A different healthcare center in the southern urban center of that area said two more victims had been brought there. A person was lost his life by Israeli forces while looking for aid to the southern area, medics said.

Gaza's health ministry said twenty-five of the {territ
