Lindsey Vonn Optimistic of Being 'perfectly positioned' for Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics

American skiing icon Lindsey Vonn asserts she will be "perfectly prepared" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, on the back of claiming a top-three finish for the fourth time in her last five World Cup races.

The 41-year-old, who achieved a milestone by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, came in third place in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This was her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup top-three result.

Strong Return in the French Alps

Racing in the French Alps resort for the first time in almost a decade, Vonn crossed the line in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was 0.36 seconds behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing the runner-up spot.

"I was slightly lacking the right line on the initial jump," Vonn said. "From that point on, I performed strongly. I'm happy with my skiing today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was not aggressive enough."

This result was her second top-three finish at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also claimed bronze in the downhill on Saturday.

A Remarkable Comeback from Retirement

Vonn officially retired in February 2019 as a result of ongoing knee problems. However, she staged a competitive comeback in late 2024 after a partial knee replacement.

With 47 days remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are set to run from February 6th to the 22nd, Vonn's form are timely.

She already possesses one gold and two Olympic bronze medals in her collection and is strongly positioned to represent the United States at the next Olympics.

"At the Olympics, I will be in a good place," the athlete confirmed.

Aiming for Further Glory

Alongside her Games aspirations, Vonn is also aiming to increase the four World Cup titles she has won over a career spanning 20 years.

She presently enjoys a substantial lead at the top of the downhill World Cup rankings and is sitting in fifth place in the super-G World Cup table.

This current World Cup campaign features a total of nine races scheduled before the circuit finale in Norway on 21 March 2026.
