Los Angeles Faces Unprecedented High Temperatures Only One Week Following Major Winter Weather.

Following a week of heavy downpours that caused flooding across areas in the city, the City of Angels is now grappling with unseasonably warm weather for late February.

Record-Setting Temperatures

On Friday midday, the mercury climbed to 33 degrees Celsius (91 Fahrenheit) in central LA, according to meteorologists. This exceeds the previous daily record for February 27th, which was 88°F (31°C) and was set in 2025.

"Exceptionally warm weather" were labeled on official graphics for the region.

Safety Alerts

Forecasters issued a warning that Friday's heat posed an "increased danger for heat illness" for vulnerable populations. Their advice suggested:

• Staying hydrated.
• Avoiding outdoor activities during the afternoon hours of the day.
• Not leaving anyone unattended in a car.

A Dramatic Weather Swing

This sharp rise in heat comes on the heels of a massive storm system that battered the area last week. That system brought thunderstorms, high winds, and heavy snow to mountainous regions, leading to mudslide risks for many residents.

Sadly, the storm also triggered a massive avalanche in the Lake Tahoe area, which left nine people dead from.

Forecast Ahead

Looking ahead cooler conditions is coming. The heat were predicted to decrease to around 61°F (16°C) in downtown LA by Friday night.

Several cities that hit ninety degrees were Woodland Hills, Long Beach, and Burbank. Meanwhile, Santa Maria, Oxnard, Camarillo, and Westwood were forecast to reach the high eighties.

For the weekend, central LA can see temperatures in the eighties, with a further cooldown likely for the following week.
