This Academy Award-nominated actress the celebrated Diane Ladd passed away 89 years old.
The actor, with roles featured Chinatown, left this world in her residence at her Ojai, California home. The news was shared via an announcement from her daughter, Academy Award-winning star Laura Dern.
Laura Dern, who appeared with Diane Ladd in a number of films including Rambling Rose, described her as “my wonderful hero and my profound gift being my mom”, writing that she was at her bedside as she died.
“She was an exceptional daughter, mother, grandmother, actress, artist along with empathetic spirit that seemed almost dreamlike,” she wrote. “We were blessed to have her. She is flying with her angels now.”
The start of her career included minor parts in TV shows like The Fugitive whereas the 1970s saw her starring with the legendary Jack Nicholson in the classic Chinatown.
That very year, 1974, she appeared alongside Ellen Burstyn in Martin Scorsese’s praised dramatic comedy Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, a classic. Her acting earned Ladd her initial Oscar nod as best supporting actress.
During the eighties, she starred in crime thriller Black Widow as well as comedy sequel National Lampoon’s holiday comedy and also took part in the sitcom Alice, a comedy program based on her earlier movie.
