The visionary game developer, who helped create the immensely successful video game Call of Duty, has died in a traffic collision in the state of California aged 55.

His passing was announced by Electronic Arts, the parent company of Respawn Entertainment, the development studio that he helped create.

The influential game designer lost his life when his vehicle was involved in a crash and was engulfed in flames on a motorway in Los Angeles on Sunday morning, according to.

"This represents an unimaginable loss, and our hearts are with his family and friends, his loved ones, and the countless individuals inspired by his creative vision," an official with Electronic Arts commented.
