Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a new playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but features a few key changes:
In short, this mode delivers on its title: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it provides more options for gamers seeking different ways to enjoy the game. But, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are upset.
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," says another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," while another details everything they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," states another. A response via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," and someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase wait times more extended for other modes due to the large amount of options currently available. Similarly, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was meant to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to remove XP farming from the system. So this new playlist seems like the community meeting them in the middle, as per forum feedback. A different user describes this mode as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I had so much fun in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"
If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and responding to feedback. Tasks being too difficult got fixed very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
