A charity drive is aiming to send a Palestinian lullaby to the top of the UK charts. The campaign seeks to provide aid to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a chance to show solidarity with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He noted the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be incredible if that happened, yes,” he said. “I’m not gonna be completely let down if it doesn't manage to, holiday tracks are a unique phenomenon.”
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the adaptation of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's defiant core message.
“It occupies a deeply meaningful spot for many individuals,” Barghouti shared. “The message is that I would choose to perish with honor than live a life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we want to live a life of dignity that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
The single was laid down after a major charity concert held in late summer. Originally intended to be performed and recorded live, the performance was cut from the show due to the event running long.
The diverse array of performers featured on Lullaby encompasses a range of well-known figures from the scene. All took part in the September show, which successfully generated a substantial amount for relief efforts.
Lullaby was brought to life by a trio of music creators. The single features a mix of the original Arabic with contemporary English verses.
The team running the project have emphasized that their objective is to raise as much as possible for a specific fund. These resources will be allocated to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an non-profit partner.
“We don’t have a specific target,” a figure said. “We’ll go for the maximum achievable. Of course, the more the merrier. Every penny goes out to Gaza.”
The situation in the area was noted for its widespread damage, with a overwhelming percentage of infrastructure described as in ruins or severely impacted.
“Against that backdrop, a couple of million is unlikely to make a massive dent. But I think what truly matters is primarily raising awareness for this issue and showing there’s another side to the story.”
The track is scheduled for release at the end of the week. Additionally, a video of the charity concert will be made available for streaming on a popular streaming site from the 19th of December.
