US Military Conducts Lethal Attack in Pacific, Leading to Four Deaths

As stated by a high-ranking military official, the American armed forces executed a lethal kinetic engagement on a boat in the Pacific Ocean, resulting in the deaths of four individuals.

“A US joint task force conducted a deadly attack on a vessel operated by a Designated Terrorist Organization in international waters. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was traveling along a established drug smuggling route and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations. All four male drug traffickers were eliminated, and no American forces were injured.”

Background and Recent Strikes

The statement comes a day after a declaration regarding a naval blockade of all targeted oil tankers to and from Venezuela. That statement on social media, the American leader accused Venezuela of using oil profits to fund drug trafficking and criminal activities, pledging to escalate the military presence.

Only on Tuesday, US defense officials stated it had conducted strikes on three boats it accused of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Since 2 September, more than 20 strikes have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 people, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.

Administration Defends Actions Amidst Scrutiny

The government has faced growing pressure to release video of a September 2nd vessel attack. But, officials have refused to do so. The administration has supported its efforts as a successful operation, saying it has prevented drugs from entering US shores and has pushed back on concerns that it is exceeding the limits of legal military action.

Although the administration has stated the campaign is about stopping drugs destined for the US, comments from a top official seemed to confirm a broader political objective. In a recently published interview, the chief of staff said the leader “wants to keep on blowing boats up until the Venezuelan president surrenders or concedes.”

This suggests the military campaign may be part of a strategy to oust Venezuela's current government.
